      Answers to questions

      Frequently asked questions

How to install OpenCart if I've never set up a website before?

You don't need prior experience for this. Send me access to your hosting, or just tell me what you have, and I handle the rest: setting up the database, the files, the domain, and checking everything actually works before handing it back to you.

Can you install OpenCart on hosting I already bought, or do I need to get a new one from you?

Either works. If you already have hosting, I'll use it, as long as it meets OpenCart's requirements. If not, I can point you to a few providers I trust, but buying hosting through me isn't required.

Is opencart 4 installation worth it now, or should I stick with 3 for a while?

Depends what's already running. Some modules and themes built for OpenCart 3 won't work on 4 without extra work. I'll look at your setup and tell you honestly what transfers cleanly and what needs rebuilding.

I want to do an opencart change domain without losing my search rankings. Is that realistic?

Mostly, yes. I set up redirects from the old URLs to the new ones, so both customers and search engines can still find you. Some ranking fluctuation after a domain change is normal, but a clean setup keeps it to a minimum.

What does an OpenCart hosting migration actually involve, step by step?

Files, database, configuration, and email all move together. I back everything up first, then rebuild it on the new server, test that it works, and only then switch the domain over, so your old site stays live the whole time.

I need an opencart move to new server, not just switch hosting providers. Is that a different job?

Not really, it's the same process either way, just sometimes with extra server setup involved, like installing the right PHP version or configuring security settings that a shared host would normally handle for you.

Can you install opencart extension for me, just the one, without touching anything else?

Yes, that's its own small job. I install it, configure it, and make sure it doesn't conflict with what's already running, without touching the rest of the site.

I bought a theme and need opencart theme installation on my live store. Can you handle that?

Send me the files and I'll take it from there. Theme installation usually takes an hour or two, and I check it on mobile too before calling it done.

Do you handle opencart module installation too, or just themes and the core platform?

Modules too. Whether it's one extension or several at once, I install, configure, and test each one so it actually works with your existing setup instead of breaking something else.

Installing OpenCart and moving it to another hosting or server

Good hosting is the foundation of a stable store. If your site slows down under traffic, your current provider keeps going down, or you’re launching something new, that’s what I handle. I install OpenCart from scratch and move existing sites to new hosting, without the technical jargon that usually comes with it.

I move projects without downtime, and your customers won’t notice a thing. If your store sees heavy traffic, I run the transfer between 9pm and 5am: your customers are asleep, I’m moving files and the database, with a full backup in place before I touch anything.

      Installing from scratch

If there’s no site yet, I set OpenCart up from zero: the domain, a MySQL database, an SSL certificate, and the platform itself through your hosting’s control panel. Opencart hosting setup includes all of this, plus the first security checks before you ever log in. Before handing over access, I check that everything actually works: the admin panel opens, the password is set, permissions are correct, and basic security is in place.

I work with standard OpenCart and with OCStore, a build based on OpenCart that comes with extra modules and extensions out of the box, built by developers who maintain it actively. The process is nearly the same either way, mostly differing in what’s pre-installed. Version matters too: opencart 3 installation is still common, and some people want to start on 4 right away. I look at your actual needs first rather than just installing whichever is easier for me.

Installing a single extension or a new theme on a store that’s already running is its own job too, separate from any move or full opencart installation. Opencart install requests like these usually take an hour or two, not a full day.

Moving to a new host or server

The most common request is an opencart move to another hosting provider, or sometimes a dedicated server instead. Files move over FTP, along with the database, configuration, access credentials, and email, so nothing gets left behind.

If the move comes with an opencart transfer to new domain, I set up redirects from the old URLs and fresh SSL certificates for the new one, so customers and search engines don’t lose track of you. If you’re running OCStore, it moves the same way standard OpenCart does, I just check beforehand whether any pre-installed modules depend on settings specific to the old server.

An opencart migration sometimes happens alongside a version upgrade: someone wants to switch servers and go from version 3 to 4 at the same time. I treat that as one project instead of two separate ones: I check what from the old setup carries over cleanly and tell you honestly what will need rebuilding.

      Choosing a host

I keep a list of hosting providers I’ve worked with and trust, including dedicated server options for stores with heavier traffic, not marketing promises, just real choices. I match the plan to your catalog size, traffic, and budget rather than pushing one option on everyone. If you’d rather move to a dedicated server, I’ll set that up myself, no need to go find a sysadmin separately.

What gets fixed along the way

Moving to new hosting is a good moment to deal with a few other things too:

      • Slow pages. Stronger hosting often speeds up the store on its own.
      • Server security. I set up the basics to reduce the risk of a break-in.
      • Backups. I configure automatic backups going forward, not just a one-time copy of your data before the move.
      • Recovering a damaged site. If the current site is already partly broken, I get it working again before moving it.

      How the work goes

      1. You describe the task. A link, a screenshot, or a short description is enough to start. I usually reply within 10–20 minutes.
      2. I check the current setup. How much data there is, what’s involved, anything unusual to account for.
      3. We agree on a plan. I explain what I’ll do, what the options are, and how long it’ll take.
      4. I do the work. I move or install, test the result, and show you the finished site.

If you need it done fast, I guarantee the transfer within 24 hours.

      Pricing

Cost depends on scope: a fresh install, a small site move, and moving a heavily loaded store with a dozen modules are different jobs. I give you a real number after I’ve seen the site, not before.
